Lump Gallery/Projects in Raleigh, NC, is pleased to present the exhibition, Sweetness and Light, featuring new work by NC artists Wendy Aracich, Daniel Hamilton, Allyson Mellberg and Jeremy Taylor, from Feb. 6 – 28, 2004. During the same time, the project room at Lump Gallery/Project will feature heartswork an installation by San Francisco artists Tiffany Bozic, Chris Duncan and Paul Urich.
Sweetness and Light is an investigation of the impact of sweet and demure images upon the innocence of children. Images inspired from a cruel free world without hatred, violence or sin are all explored through many different mediums such as drawing, painting, sewing and other sensitive processes. Allyson Mellberg’s drawings and sculptures deal with imagery based on fairy tales and the conscious and subconscious hallucinations of children. Wendy Aracich will be showing a series of soft, embroidered objects that deal with childhood and illness, comfort and pain. Jeremy Taylor’s constructions and drawings depict man’s continual disruption of nature. Daniel Hamilton’s digital drawing’s explore issues of longing and the confines of memory.
heartswork is a traveling exhibition inspired by the writings of Ranier Maria Rilke. San Francisco artists Tiffany Bozic, Chris Duncan and Paul Urich will create an installation based on Rilke’s work and the cross country trip of which the artists have made. The installation will include drawing, painting and site specific mixed-media works. May the circle be unbroken.
