Dress/Shield October 2015 Dress/Shield, a group exhibition of new works by six women artists who have a history of showing at Lump. The artists featured in Dress/Shield include Leah Bailis, Philadelphia, PA; Lee Delegard, Brooklyn, NY; Lydia Moyer, Covesville, VA; Molly Schafer, Chicago, IL; Tory Wright, Greenville, SC; and Laura Sharp Wilson, Salt Lake City, UT. Their working processes are diverse, encompassing sculpture, textiles, video, photography, and works on paper. For the artists, their identity as women underpins the work they make. Individually, their voices are distinct and varied. This group show is an opportunity to see how the perception of those voices changes when they are in chorus and to explore the connections between the work of women artists who are disparate in geography and media while sharing a formative connection to North Carolina and Lump. Harrison Haynes Isolated Tracks May 2015 For his second solo exhibition at Lump, North Carolina-based artist Harrison Haynes employs studio-based photography to advance his abiding interest in the confluence of visual art and music. Isolated Tracks features a new group of unframed photographs tacked directly to the gallery walls. The photographs depict sculptural and still-life arrangements comprised of a variety of materials, including Mylar tape, packing tape, pine tree branches, and hornet’s nests. Haynes builds these displays and then photographs them in front of paper and canvas backdrops which he has hand-painted in highly saturated hues of red-orange and blue. In addition to the title’s allusion to music (isolated tracks are portions of vocal or instrumental performances of well-known songs separated from the rest of their mix), references to drumming and song writing abound in Haynes’ photographs. Joy Drury Cox Pockets April 2015 My work often deals with shapes and spaces that are both ubiquitous and often overlooked. After completing a large project last year, I am at another beginning place with my artwork. For this, my first exhibition in North Carolina, I am working from intuition. I began by gathering several pairs of blue jeans and cutting the pockets out of them. After various tests and experiments, what has resulted so far is a series of drawings, which aesthetically reference maps, Rorschach tests and textiles. Amanda Barr Real Talk Catastrophe March 2015 “This series of paintings has been a long time coming. My dad and grandfather were painters, and I’ve always painted but been inspired and distracted by the idea that one can use any material they want, so I got away from painting a series. It’s been like having a long dinner with an old friend creating these. Where I’m getting inspiration is Oaxaca, Mexico in construction and the resourcefulness I see there. A lot of color. Josh Rickards Livin Lovin Livin February 2015 Dwellings, dwelling on things, and the life and loves you try and accommodate in ones own life. Livin Lovin Livin, explores the relationships between art, others and the self. The exhibition will include over 30 drawings and paintings. Josh Rickards grew up on an island in SW Florida where he dreamed of one day getting out. Rickards received his BA at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL and his MFA from UNC Greensboro. He lived in Greensboro for a while and before relocating to Philadelphia and finally to Los Angeles where he currently lives with his wife, son and dog. Tyler Wolf Transmutation December 2014 Tyler Wolf’s new show Transmutation is based on the idea of change, change we impose upon the world and change that is imposed upon us by the larger universe. The splitting of atoms and splicing of genes are certain themes that make their way into some of his new paintings. Will the change we impose upon the world be a positive thing, or are we just creating monsters? Tyler Wolf is a graduate of ECU with a BFA in painting and drawing. He is a founding member of the band Valient Thorr. Wolf is also member of Team Lump and this is first solo show at Lump. Lump is located at 505 S. Blount St, Raleigh, NC. Daniel Davidson #movingpictures October 2014 “My work is a fusion of hybrid characters, spaces and styles. Focusing on the urges and consequences of actions on a personal, as well as social level, my work has been about over-consumption for the past few years. The Shredder Sessions September 2014 David Colagiovanni (Athens, OH) is an artist/composer who reconfigures and sequences video, sound and space. Colagiovanni will host The Shredder Sessions at Lump, where musicians from the Hopscotch Music Festival lineup (September 4th-6th) will improvise on a kinetic sound sculpture comprised of paper shredders, prepared chord organs, fire-bells, hand mixers, blenders, cymbals and other sound-making devices. Renowned audio engineer and artist David McConnell will produce and record the sessions, which will be free and open to the public. Lump will be open to the public Friday/Saturday, September 5th & 6th from 12pm-6pm with live recording sessions with Hopscotch Artists.
